Tomtom Navigator Updates
Exactly - beacause it just does not work as they claim. I don't know what kind of OS you are using, but on Windows XP (Home or Professional) the drivers do not get installed. There are 2 items: MTP and TomTom Rider 400 that Windows wants to install, but TT has not published any of them. Mikko claimed that if you have your XP updated, MyDrive updated and Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit installed, then everything should be fine. But it is not. They just have not tested it. I did - on three different comps - one XP Home Edition and two XP Professional - quite strangely - exactly the same issues.
Dear TT Team - I'd suggest you spend $200 and buy some old XP comps (for that money you could probably buy 2 or 3 of them) and do some testing BEFORE releasing, otherwise you will have to clone Mikko 1000x to deal with questions. Same problem for me using Windows 7 Home Premium. No drivers for MTP or TomTom Rider 400.

STEP 1 - Open Device Manager.Connect your device to the computer.Open your Start menu on the computer and click on Control Panel. The next section is dependent on your operating system so you only need to follow the bullet point that applies to you: XP: Click on System, then on the Hardware tab. Vista: Click on System and Maintenance.
You may be prompted for an administrator username and password. Windows 7: Click on System and Security, then on System - if you don’t see this link then skip down to the next bullet point.Click on Device Manager. STEP 2 - Removing the drivers.Click on the icon next to Network Adapters. The device may show here as TomTom.
If you do not find it here, click on the icon on the left of Universal Serial Bus Controllers. The device will show up as an unknown device or as a mass storage device. To determine which is the correct device, you can disconnect the device and the respective icon should disappear.Right click on the correct device (TomTom or unknown device) and click on Properties.Click on Driver.Click on Uninstall.Once the driver is uninstalled, disconnect your device and restart your computer.Turn off the device. STEP 3 - Reinstalling the drivers.Connect your device to a different USB port (with the device still switched off).Press and hold the power button until your device switches on.The computer should now install the driver. If this fails you will see a message on the screen saying that the installation failed. If this happens, follow Step 1 to open the Device Manager.
Right click on the device and click on Install driver manually. Browse to 'C: Program Files MyDrive Connect Driver INF' and the driver will install. Cheers, Piotr. Hi TOmahawk, unfortunatelly the procedure does not work on Win XP. I got similar (but not the same) instructions from Polish Customer Support from TomTom today. In both instructions it is clear that people who wrote them even did not sit in front of XP. They missed a very important thing - the items 'MTP' and 'TomTom Rider 400' show up in the Device Manager ONLY after 'Import Routes' is pressed. And only then can be unistalled.
Doesn't matter anyway - the procedures do not work. Basically, the driver that is in the INF folder cannot be installed for TTR400. TomTom Rider 400 does NOT work with Tyre Pro on Windows XP. TomTom cannot resolve the problem. Their Customer Service explains that MTP Porting Kit should be installed to fix the problem, but it does not help at all. There are two items in the Device Manager: 'MTP' and 'TomTom Rider 400' that show up when 'Import Routes' butto is pressed, but it is not possible to install them.
The driver that sits in 'C: Program Files MyDrive INF' cannot be installed. They should put a sticker on the box: 'DOES NOT WORK WITH WINDOWS XP'. The same should be in the manual and on their webpage. Of course such an info does not show up anywhere. If you have XP, and don't want to buy another laptop or spend $100 on Windows 7 licence - DO NOT BUY TomTom Rider 400 (same applies to 40).
Wait till they fix the problem (if they do at all). My TTR400 goes with me tomorrow for its last trip - back to the shop.
Switching to Garmin. Have had enough 'fun' already. And the reason is not just XP and Tyre, but overall 'readiness' of TomTom's product. If cars were produced with same quality, they would be falling apart while driving (if the wheels and steering wheel would be installed at all). Mikkok I finally, after much agro, managed to download a route from Tyre to my Rider 400. I found that if tyre was already running when I connected my Rider I could not download a route.

When I followed your instructions, at step 5 (two step 4's?), Tyre route was not available to import and Tyre reported 'your TomTom cannot be found' (even though it was connected). The method I found that did work was at Step 1 having pressed import, in Tyre I 'save as' my route as a TT itinerary on my PC then followed instructions on TT screen and used windows explorer to copy the.itn file to my Rider. Then when I pressed 'Done' route was listed as available for import. 2 Questions 1) When is the Tyre/TT partnership going to make downloading routes simple and not this hugely challenging and time wasting method we have now? (My prior TomTom, I simply pressed copy to TT and in 2 seconds flat route was there, same with my Garmin).
2) When you first connect TT you get the Import screen but as soon as you move away from this screen, I can find no way to get back to it, other than to disconnect TT and reconnect it. When are you going to provide a means of getting back to Connect screen? Agesofman wrote: Mikkok I finally, after much agro, managed to download a route from Tyre to my Rider 400.

Rider indeed needs to be connected first as Tyre only scans for devices upon starting it. Cheers, Mikko Hi Mikko Given that a lifetime Tyre Pro was 'bundled' with my R400 purchase - does that not strongly infer there some form of business partnership? Also this problem with downloading routes is not a problem initiated by Tyre.

Tyre downloaded routes to my 2 car satnavs (a TT and a Garmin) easily and seamlessly. TT appear to have changed something fundamental with how routes are downloaded (I assume associated with supporting MyDrive) as well as significantly changing the user interface compared with my old TT (and I personally do not find the user interface as intuitive - reminds me of another company that did something similar when they released Windows 8:P). There are lots of things to like about the R400 but I would have thought it sensible to do your utmost to assist Tyre with getting the route downloads simplified. Hi agesoftman, The relationship is more of a mutual endorsement (I amended my previous post).
Rider 40/400 is based on the new NavKit software, which is rather different in many ways to the old NavCore software of the previous Riders. One big difference is the way to connect to computer.
This naturally has some consequences to sharing content. We've already provided some solutions to this by releasing the MyDrive platform as well as enabling sharing via memory card and reserving a partition on Rider 40/400 for this purpose. We'll continue to work on/improve content sharing options on Rider 40/400. Cheers, Mikko.

Found these steps in another forum (I take no credit) it worked for me. Install TomTom from Playstore, having beforehand removed all traces of any previous installation. Run TomTom until you get to the map download page. Do not download any maps.
Close TomTom. Find the folder com.tomtom.gplay.navapp in internal storage /Android/OBB and copy it to a safe place. Uninstall TomTom, clearing cache and data.
Install the patched version but don’t open it yet. Copy the folder com.tomtom.gplay.navapp that you saved back to internal storage / Android/OBB. Run TomTom and download required maps. 1 – install original (from g-play) 2 – launch app, go though settings, wait till list of maps appears.
Don’t switch off app at this point! 3 – launch file manager, navigate to /storage/emulated/0/android/obb/com.tomtom.gplay.navapp and change name folder to add for example number1 on the end o the folder navapp1 4 – now exit GO, and uninstall it from app-manager 5 – install patched version from here.
Don’t launch it! 6 – back to file manager – go to storaage/android/obb and rename folder naapp1 to the original navapp 7 – now launch app, go to list of maps – and download which you want.
